NB: We hope to be back in the classroom by September and will follow the planned schedule of classes whilst observing correct social distancing. If we are not permitted in the classroom in September, the equine anatomy, physiology & behaviour, rider biomechanics, saddles & their components and marketing units of this course will be taught, live and in real time, by Zoom webinar. The practical will be taught once back in the classroom. This course is enrolling now – please send your enquiry to us.
ANATOMY, PHYSIOLOGY & BEHAVIOUR
We begin by looking in-depth into the anatomy, physiology & behaviour of the horse & rider.
Looking at your subjects from skeletal & soft tissue perspectives creates a firm foundation to ensure you are constantly working from a holistic and horse-orientated frame of reference.
You learn to identify correct & compensatory patterns of mechanics & behaviour and how your role will be vital in keeping horses and riders free from discomfort and how to help them perform optimally.
You will be working both in the classroom and in the yard and manège, observing and assessing your subjects under the skillful guidance of your tutors.
SADDLES & THEIR COMPONENTS
Equally important you will be guided through the complexities of saddle design and construction. You will learn to identify the individual components and materials used by the range of saddle manufacturers supplying the market.
You will be taught how to correctly assess saddles and their suitability for both horse and rider. An ability to identify the functional needs of both is what allows the remedial saddle fitter to be the interface between the clients, their horses and the saddle manufacturer.
With your now healthy background-knowledge & understanding of how horses, riders & saddles can positively & negatively impact one another, we put theory into practice. Under the guidance of specialists, you will assess horses and ponies both statically & dynamically; at all 3 paces; both with & without tack &/or rider, and on different surfaces. You will also learn to take templates, make minor remedial adjustments to saddle fit and practice the role of the saddle fitting consultant.
PRODUCTS, BUSINESS & MARKETING
We also go through a portfolio of the various products available on the market, the services that you can refer your future clients to and how to promote & safe-guard your new business.
SELF-LEARNING & SUPPORT
In between these educational classroom and practical days, you will be completing a series of assignments at home to further your own learning, whilst being supported online via webinars and workshops. From here, the answers you research and the case studies you work on, will help to create your own user manual to guide you as you look to begin your new career.
LANTRA AWARD CERTIFICATION
Upon successful completion of the work, students gain accreditation through the Lantra Awards.
